Just thought I would start a page listing my motive power and what it's used for
I have also created a topic in the forum where you can ask questions and leave comments abouth this article First up is a Kato SD40, these were almost gone by 2006/07 but back in 2003/04 there were still a couple around, this will be one of my yard locos . This will be used for the regular transfers between the yard at Brooklyn, Milwaukee and the main yard at Albina (Portland) I hope to pair this with a SD40-2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_SD40
Next is a Kato SD90/43MAC which is the first loco for Intermodal 1 train, the plan is to have a second SD90/43MAC for this train http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_SD90MAC
My next offering is an Atlas SD60M, this was one of those ebay purchases that went well. I won the loco for peanuts it ran like a bag of nail but a quick application of electrolube and it runs like a Kato. This loco alng with her sister SD60 forms part of the lumber mill/ paper mill trick hauling raw products between mills. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_SD60
The next loco is another Atlas, this one is a SD60 which is basically a slightly older SD60M but without the North American Safety cab this is paired with my Atlas SD60M http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_SD60 One thing the UP is about is Coal and they transport a heck of a lot of it. The next model is a Kato AC4400CW the UP purchased these to haul coal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GE_AC4400CW
Her sister loco in this lash up is another Kato AC4400CW this one is #9997, I am still on the lookout for another AC4400CW that kato did in UP? Operation Lifesaver Scheme http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GE_AC4400CW
My second coal train is powered by some more modern motive power, Coal 2 uses Athearn SD70M locomotives. I bought one of these to try out after reading very mixed reviews, this one arrived and when first run it ran well but the noise was more noticable compared to Kato but this was expected (what do you expect with a model that's £20 cheaper?) This loco was used as my test loco for a while and after a small amount of electrolube this engine purrs along. The quality of the model is also superb, which prompted me to add another one to the fleet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_SD70_series
Her sister Athearn SD70M #5007 also used on Coal 2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_SD70_series
The passenger side of things hasn't been forgotten my Coast Starlight is powered by GE P42DC Genesis locomotives http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P42DC The first up is a Kato P42DC #9 although you can hardly see the number in the silver band top right
The other P42DC #53 is also in Amtrak phase III scheme, I use phase III scheme as I prefer it to phase IV and a few P42's were still in phase III in 2003/04
please check back as new stock is still been added,,I am awaiting the delivery of 4 of the new Kato SD70ACe's but these have been put back yet again |
